GLUTEN-FREE BURGOS

There are many special things in Burgos that make it a nice town for visiting: the gothic Cathedral, the Human Evolution Museum, the archaeological site of Atapuerca, the road to Santiago, their wines...

Regarding the gluten-free issue, the Burgos Coeliacs Association published a hotels and restaurants guide with a wide offer in the capital and the surroundings, and also has a map on its web with the location of other places proposed by their members.
We spent last weekend in Burgos, therefore we had the opportunity to try three of them:

THE SURPRISE OF CANGAS DEL NARCEA (ASTURIAS)

Cangas del Narcea, Asturias

Last Christmas, Santa brought me a trip to Cangas del Narcea. The region of Cangas del Narcea, Degaña and Ibias is on the southwest of Asturias, and most of it is occupied by Fuentes del Narcea, Degaña and Ibias Natural Park. This Natural Park is home to mountains and valleys of great importance covered by native forests. Other natural areas, such as Muniellos Natural Reserve and Somiedo Natural Park are very close to the region of Cangas.

A unique place to enjoy the last days of 2013, but not only because the beauty of its landscapes and monuments but also because Cangas del Narcea is maybe the region of Spain with a bigger ratio of celiac people!

UPDATED 07/17/2015
Coeliacs / celiacs regional and national associations of Spain make a hard work. Part of that work is to contact the hotels and restaurants of their area, explain to them what the gluten-free diet is and how they have to cook and to manipulate gluten-free food.
Here you have a list with the shops, hotels and restaurants of every region of Spain that have agreements with associations:

Galicia:
Hotels and restaurants:

ASTURIAS:
Gijón:
Bakeries and ice-cream shops:

  • Provide the gluten-free manufactured foodstuffs of Spain, by means of a searcher of products and brands, or a bar-code reader.
  • Provide the medicines that contain gluten.
  • Locate the gluten-free friendly bars, restaurants and stores.
  • Translate into other languages the Coeliac / Celiac Card (things that people who is going to prepare and serve your meal should know about the gluten-free diet).
  • Cookbook.

Few weeks ago I wrote a post about a gluten-free club of restaurants in Comunitat Valenciana. Recently, another touristic region of Spain, Málaga (in Andalucía), launched other initiative to help coeliacs to eating out, thanks to the agreement between the City Council and the Coeliacs Association of Málaga (ACEMA).

COMUNITAT VALENCIANA: COELIAC-FRIENDLY HOLIDAY DESTINATION

Comunitat Valenciana is a region of Spain located in the Mediterranean Sea shore. Valencia, Alicante, Castellón, Dénia, Gandia, Benidorm or Benicàssim belong to this amazing region. Apart from its warm climate, it is well known by its idyllic beaches, charming picturesque villages, art, lively nightlife and cuisine. The famous paella comes from the Region of Valencia.

And it is also one of the Spanish paradises for coeliacs / celiacs, because it has the first gluten-free club of restaurants of Spain.
